World AIDS Day

Sunshine House, Inc. began its life in 1983 as the Kali-Shiva Society. Kali was a group of volunteers who organized to care for Brian Taylor, the thirteenth person to be diagnosed with AIDS in Manitoba. Kali was later renamed in honour of Dione Sunshine — two days before she died of AIDS at the St. Boniface Hospital in January, 2000. On World AIDS Day we remember those we have lost. We honour those who worked to care for HIV/AIDS patients when governments and communities abandoned them. We grieve for the generation of 2SLGBTQ people whose absence is today keenly felt. We resolve to do better for those currently living with the virus.
