It’s shaping up to be a pretty dark winter and we are planning to bring a little hope and comfort to our participants.

We have created an online gift registry so anyone can be Santa! The registry is here: www.sokindregistry.org/sunshinehouse

This might be a great opportunity to “re-gift” some items that you have received and never used! Alternately, as you do your own Christmas shopping, you can add an item off this list to your curbside pickup order! We do accept secondhand items in some cases, but please do limit this to “excellent used condition” type things.

 It's Christmas, after all!

The deadline for committing to buy a gift or gifts on the registry (www.sokindregistry.org/sunshinehouse) is has been EXTENDED to Friday, December 11. However, this is just the deadline to commit. The deadline for delivering your gifts to Sunshine House is DECEMBER 21, and you can sign up for a drop-off appointment any time at www.calendly.com/sunshinehouse.

After Thursday, we'll start the process of shopping for gifts that have not been gifted via the registry. As always, you can donate money toward that on our website at www.sunshinehousewpg.org/donate.

December 1 is World AIDS Day. This year, we commemorate the AIDS epidemic as we are all surviving a worldwide pandemic. Sunshine House fits its roots in the AIDS epidemic; it originally began as the Kali-Shiva Society, a group of volunteers who gathered in 1983 to provide care for Brian Taylor. Sunshine House was so-named in the year 2000 after Dionne Sunshine, a community member who died of complications from AIDS at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Our beloved former executive director, Margaret Ormond, was there for the darkest days of the '80s and '90s when treatments were nonexistent and information was hard to come by. Current ED Levi Foy got online to talk with her about what it was like back then, how Sunshine House's unique ethos came to be, and what parallels we can draw between that chaotic time and the one we currently live in.
